This summer, I published a series on the Four Last Things: Death, Judgment, Hell, and Heaven.
I feel called to revisit this series for the season of Advent, which began on Sunday, November 28th.
Traditionally, the sermons preached on the four Sundays of Advent were on the Four Last Things.
Each week I’ll present a short post on one of the Four Last Things.
In each post I’ll share a:
- passage from Scripture
- quote from Venerable Fulton Sheen
- short prayer
- link to my previous post on the same topic
May this Advent be a season of spiritual preparation in which the Holy Ghost fills our souls and helps us to contemplate the Four Last Things.

Scripture
And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
Venerable Fulton Sheen
“When one leads a mortified life in Christ, death does not come like a thief in the night, taking one by surprise. We die daily; thus, we rehearse.”
Prayer
Prayer to Saint Joseph:
O Saint Joseph, foster father of the Child Jesus and true spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for us and for the dying of this day and this night. Amen.
