I don’t normally post on Tuesday, but I want to share something important!
9 Days for Life is an annual novena for the protection of human life.
The novena begins today, January 21st and ends Wednesday, January 29th.
Each day’s intention is accompanied by a short prayer, reflection and suggested actions to help build a culture of life.
You can sign up to receive the novena daily via email or text. A free mobile app is also available.
I hope you’ll join me, and thousands of others, in prayer.
Please share this important novena with family and friends!
Day of Prayer
In the Catholic Church in the United States, January 22nd is designated as a day of prayer and penance called the “Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.”
It takes place on this date because of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case that legalized abortion in all 50 states in 1973.
Catholics are called to observe this day through penitential acts of prayer, fasting and/or almsgiving.
In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 373).
March for Life
The March for Life began in Washington, D.C. as a small demonstration and quickly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.
The purpose of the march is to peacefully oppose Roe v. Wade and abortion.
The first march took place on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the Supreme Court decision.
Now it takes place on the Friday closest to this date in respect for the 60 million lives lost since abortion was legalized.
This year, the National March for Life will take place on January 24th.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Protectress of the Unborn, pray for us!
