Our Lady of Guadalupe

Today, December 12th is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared under this title in Mexico on December 9 and December 12, 1531.

I’d like to share facts about this event in honor of her feast.

A New Series

I was recently inspired to begin a new series on my blog!

Since I enjoy learning about the saints, and they’re an important part of the Catholic Faith, I decided to create a series for them.

The new series is called Saint Spotlight. 

In this series I’ll highlight a saint for a specific purpose. It will most likely be a saint whose feast is celebrated in the current month.

I’ll describe the life of the saint and provide interesting information that I find.

I’ll choose saints from different time periods and walks of life, some well-known and some obscure.

Today I’ll present a saint I recently learned about: Frances Xavier Cabrini.

My Grandpa: A Devoted Child of God and the Blessed Mother

A Special Photo

My paternal grandfather loved photography and was a photographer by trade. There’s one photo in particular that’s very special to him and my family.

Grandpa and Grandma used to visit a Marian shrine near their home. During one visit, Grandpa photographed a statue of Mary.

The statue was positioned near the doorway of the chapel, which made it difficult to photograph.

He said there was no way to capture the photo without getting “hot spots” — shiny glares — on the statue’s face. (In those days, photography wasn’t digital and couldn’t be edited the way it is today.)

He tried his best, assuming hot spots would be visible when the film was developed…
