For Those Waiting on Their Vocation Part III: Prayers

As mentioned in previous posts, God calls each person to a particular Vocation/state in life based on what is best for their soul.

Some discover their Vocation early in life.

Some discover it later, while others may not be able to formally enter into a Vocation despite wanting and/or trying to do so.

In Part I I shared some of my journey and gave examples of Saints who had later Vocations.

In Part II I shared some truth.

In this post I’ll share prayers to discern God’s will and/or help on one’s journey toward their Vocation.

Always remember that prayer isn’t transactional, and God isn’t a genie.

We make our requests to God and have to trust that however He chooses to answer them is for the best.

Prayer is meant to change us and prepare our hearts to graciously accept God’s will.

The ultimate goal is to conform our will to His, which can be a challenge.

I can’t promise that you, or I, will formally live out a Vocation and receive everything we desire in this life.

I can promise that God hears every prayer and uses it for good.

We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

To Live in the Divine Will

I pray for the grace to desire what God desires for me.

Lord, please change my call or change my heart.

Father, may I be the person You want me to be and may Your will be done in my life today.

Jesus, I trust in You. Thy Will be done. I give You my will, please give me Yours in return.

O Jesus, I surrender myself to You, take care of everything.

Mother Mary, pray your Fiat and Magnificat in my heart.

To Know One’s Vocation

O Great St. Joseph, so docile to the guidance of the Holy Ghost, obtain for me the grace to know what state of life Divine Providence destines for me. Do not allow me to be deceived with regard to so important a choice, upon which depends my happiness in this world, and even my eternal salvation. Obtain for me that, being enlightened to know the Divine Will and being faithful in accomplishing it, I may embrace the state of life which God has destined for me and which will lead me to a happy eternity. Amen.

Note: I prayed a novena using this for everyone who is discerning/waiting on their Vocation June 4 to 12, 2024

After a Breakup

Jesus, I have feelings for _______ which are not leading to Holy Matrimony. I ask you to bless him (or her) and I hear by renounce all romantic feelings for him (or her) and open myself up to meeting my future spouse. Amen.

For One’s Future Spouse

O Jesus, Lover of all, the dearest Friend I have, in all confidence I open my heart to You to beg Your light and assistance in the important task of planning my future. Give me the light of Your grace, that I may decide wisely concerning the person who is to be my partner through life.

Dearest Jesus, send me such a one whom in Your divine wisdom You judge best suited to be united with me in marriage. May his (or her) character reflect the traits of Your own Sacred Heart. May he (or she) be upright, loyal, pure, sincere and noble, so that with united efforts and with pure and unselfish love we both may strive to perfect ourselves in soul and body, as well as the children it may please You to entrust to our care. Bless our friendship before marriage, that sin may have no part in it. May our mutual love bind us so closely, that our future home may ever be most like Your own at Nazareth.

O Mary Immaculate, sweet Mother of all, to your special care I entrust the decision I am to make as to my future spouse. You are my guiding Star! Direct me to the person with whom I can best cooperate in doing God’s Holy Will, with whom I can live in peace, love and harmony in this life, and attain eternal joys in the next. Amen.

Note: I prayed a novena using this for everyone who desires marriage and is discerning/waiting for their future spouse Sept 4 to 12, 2024

  1. It’s nice to know that God has a special plan for each of us, even if we don’t figure it out right away. Some people know what they want to be when they’re little, but others take longer, and that’s okay! Prayer helps us listen to God’s plan, even when it’s different from what we expected. I’m going to remember that God hears all our prayers and uses them for good things!
