For Those Waiting on Their Vocation Part II: Truth from Scripture

As mentioned in a previous post, God calls each person to a particular Vocation/state in life based on what is best for their soul.

Some discover their Vocation early in life.

Some discover it later, while others may not be able to formally enter into a Vocation despite wanting and/or trying to do so.

In Part I I shared some of my journey and gave examples of Saints who had later Vocations.

In this post I’ll remind us all of the truth.

My goal is to provide encouragement, support and hope for those who are waiting on their Vocation.

Truth

I can’t promise that you, or I, will formally live out a Vocation and receive everything we desire in this life.

I can promise that the statements below are true for everyone.

  • God willed you into existence for a specific purpose and mission, even if you don’t know what that purpose or mission is. (see Jeremiah 1:5)
  • You were made in God’s image and likeness and are irreplaceable. (Genesis 1:27)
  • You have inestimable and unchangeable value and worth. (Matthew 10:29-31)
  • You are loved and desired beyond comprehension. (John 3:16)
  • You are fully seen and known. (Psalm 139:13)
  • You are not running out of time. (Luke 1:36-37)
  • You are not too old. (Isaiah 46:4)
  • You are not being left behind. (Psalm 9:10)
  • You are not forgotten. (Isaiah 49:15)
  • You are not alone. (Matthew 28:20)
  • You and/or your circumstances are not hopeless. (Romans 8:25)
  • You are not a failure or disappointment, and nothing is “wrong” with you. (Matthew 3:16-17)
  • You are beautiful, inside and out. (Song of Solomon 4:1)
  • Your primary Vocation is love – to love God first, your neighbor second and yourself third. (Mark 12:30-31)
  • Your life exists in the present moment. It doesn’t begin when you enter into a Vocation. (Matthew 6:34)
  • Your journey is unique and not meant to be compared with the journey of others. (John 21:21-22)
  • You have your own story and are not an extra in someone else’s story. (Jeremiah 29:11)
  • God wants to shower you with blessings and graces. (Matthew 7:11)
  • You have been given gifts/charisms to use now for the Church and the Kingdom. (1 Corinthians 12)
  • You were made for greatness, not mediocrity or comfort. Don’t lower your standards or settle because of doubt, fear, impatience, loneliness or physical desires. (Romans 12:2)
  • Even if two people love each other and desire to be together, they may not be called to marry each other – discern wisely. (1 Corinthians 7:17)
  • Your sacrifices are not wasted when offered to God. (Matthew 19:29)
  • Your perseverance will be rewarded. (Hebrews 10:35-36)
  • Everyone experiences suffering and trials, no matter what state of life they are in. (1 Peter 5:9)
  • God hears every prayer. (Tobit 3:16)
  • God wants you to fully open your heart to Him. Give Him all your hopes and dreams, no matter how small or big they seem. (Romans 5:5)
  • God’s plan and timing is perfect. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
  • God’s ways are not our ways, and we can’t understand everything. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
  • There is freedom in surrender and letting go. (Job 1:21)
  • You will never be completely fulfilled here on earth, only in heaven. (Psalm 63:1)
  • Life here is very short compared to eternity. (Psalm 90:3-4,10)
  • Everything here is temporary, except love and your relationship with God. (Revelation 21:1)
  • Your ultimate purpose is to do God’s will and spend eternity with Him. (1 John 2:17)

Look to the Lord for the truth of your identity and existence.

Let Him speak truth to your mind and heart.

Do NOT believe any lie that paints you any less than the beloved child that you are.

Refer to the statements and verses above whenever you need reminders.

Know of my prayers!
